University in SA initiating silouroidei breeding studies

Post by tsekela »

At the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, a team of researchers has initiated culturing studies on various silouroidei species. The species selected (Mochokidae and Austroglanididae species) for these studies include species in Southern Africa which are endangered or in most cases critically endangered. The conservation importance of the systems in which these species occur have thus recieved attention. Some populations of these species are under severe risk and as a result the Water Research Commision of South Africa has commissioned this study. If anyone can provide specific maintanace and culturing information relating to this family of Siluriformes please reply to

catfish@howz.it

or if anyone is interested in our progress... Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

I dont have any info that you need but I am interested in you project. I have just graduated from UCT in Zoology and Botany and I am currently breeding Synodontis catfish. Could you please send me more info on what you guys are doing? I am using hormone injection and was wondering whether my experience could help with maybe spawning some of the catfish you are interested in.

Looking forward to hearing from you
