Jaguar cats & Upside Down cats

Post by DizTheFreak »

In my never-ending research to figure out what to put in my 50gal once its done cycling, I thought I had it figured out... My plan for it included a pair of jaguar cats (supposed to grow 8-10") and some Upside Down cats (4"). I was discussing this with a guy that works at the pet store by my house, and he said that the jaguar cat would eat the upside down cats... Would this be the case still if I put in the upside down cats, and waited for them to be full grown before adding the jaguar cats?
Maybe its just because I'm fairly new to the catfish world, but I'm having a hard time picturing an 8" cat swallowing a 4"er!

The jaguar cat will not eat the upside downs. They should be OK together.

I'm thinking I already know the answer to this, but, I guess I will have to demote the guppies to my 10 gallon when I get the Jaguar cats? Would the guppies be ok with the upside down cats? I'm planning to get them first.

Jaguar cats

Diz,

Do you have a source for the Jaguar cats? I can't find anyone who carries them. Anyway, I understand the Jags are pretty well behaved if they are fed well with pellets, chopped shrimp etc. etc. I wouldn't trust them with any of the smaller fish.

Glad to hear someone else likes these beautiful cats!

You can easily trust them with smaller fish, as long as these have spines. No way a Jaguar will go for any Cory, except perhaps the very tiny species like C.pygmaeus.

Though I wouldn't recommend it and open myself to criticism, I have successfully kept 3 adult jaguars with cardinal tetras! I kept them well fed; perhaps they were too small to interest the jaguars.
Luca Brazzi sleeps with the fishes.
