L260 Questions

Post by greenmonkey51 »

I went to my LFS and the got in a L260. I wanted a L066 but this looked close enough. Not realizing that L260 is a Queen Arebesque I had them put it on hold for me. I had generally been leaning away from them since I read that they need high oxygenated water and fast current. They're also sensitive to nitrates. Is all this true about them, I dont know If Im comfortable getting a sensitive pleco.

Hypancistrus, in general, are far from sensitive fish. I regularly have my nitrates build up to ~30 ppm, as it seems spawns only occur several weeks after I change the water and the fish (mostly hypancistrus) do not seem to suffer any negative physiological ailments. Though it's been a while since I've touched a queen arabesque, I would assume that they'd be no less inclined to enjoy a non-currented, reasonably clean tank. They do prefer water with a fairly high concentration of DO, but if your tank is at, oh, 75-80f with a reasonable power filter, you have no real reason to worry about the aeration.
