Post by WhipTail »

Hello all!

I just joined PlanetCatfish and I want introduce myself and my suckermouths.
My name is Satu, and I live in Finland(Tampere).
I have had aquariums since I was a child. Those were very small that time.. Little fish only.
This became truly a lifestyle when I got my biggest tank, 560-litres, couple of years ago. Then I got my first bigger fish.. angelfish, altums etc.

Here are my tanks;
http://sv.aqua-web.org/akvaariot.html
One 98-litres is also, but I havent put it in my sites yet.

First succermouths was(Still are) whiptails(Rineloricaria, Farlowella, Sturisoma, Otos) then my man bought his first tank (317-l)and wanted some plecos in there. I thought those are very difficult to take care.. But no..

I got interested at plecos too, and in big tank I have now 3 x L-66 and 1 x L-333
http://sv.aqua-web.org/sokkelopleko.html
Big group of Sturisomas and they babys;
http://sv.aqua-web.org/purjesampimonni.html
Sturisomas are spawning frequently.

5 x very interesting Farlowellas and Rineloricaria;

And some Otocinclus(They have own tank, 98-l.);

And few new spesies, 4 x Hypoptopoma sp. and 3x Pseudohemiodon sp.;

We got deep into the plecohobby and with the pleco-tank we bougth own tank for L-134's.

There are some amazing pictures on your site. You have put a lot of effort into those tanks. They look really good. I especially like what you've done with the plants!

Welcome to Planet Catfish Whiptail.

Hi! You don't know how happy I am that there is someone from Finland here that is interested in aquariums. I am a duel citizen of Finland and America. My moms family lives in Finland and I go there every summer. It is nice that there is now someone else I can talk to in Finnish (I speak it fluently). The only people that speak Finnish that I can communicate with are my family and a pen-pal from Finland, but now I can add you to my list. :D It is great you are here and welcome to Planet Catfish! I am also interested in plants, especially orchids. I'd be happy to help you, even though I've kept fish about 2 years, but I've read multiple books and done a lot of research (and I love helping people!)
*Those sure are beautiful fish!

Satu is an accomplished aquarist and keeps some of the most attractive tanks I have ever seen. She has also recently prepared an article for Shane's World.

Hei vaan! :)
Thanks for you reply. Here in Finland are many many people that are interested about aquariums, but maybe they stay in Finnish formuns. I belong etc. one aquariumsociety(Tampere`s Aquariumsociety)which have over 150 members(in one city) in, we do together everything what included in aquariums.. So there are plenty of us.
Maybe they are afraid of that they cant write in english, like me, but I still try and learn all the time new things.
Its wrong that here are not more Finnish people, I try to tempt my man also here.. :)

Where you moms family lived in Finland? I moved 2 years ago from Kuopio to Tampere. This is a big city. :D
Nice that you have seen Finnish summer, in summer(middle of summer) sun shines 24/7. I hate being here because here is so cold and long and snowly winter. Here in Finland we can only imagine/dream of whats it like in South-America, where those catfish live in nature.
Where are you from then?

You like some Orcideas. Well I have had few of those but everytime I kill them. I cant take care of those plants and cactus are second which I cant take care of.. I like normal homeplants(and summer do my job outdoorplants) and make they grow in water in tanks hung up something.. Not all of plant, only roots.

Thanks Shane for you compliment.
Im just interested of suckermouths so much and like to learn new. I heard that here are professionals and fishexperts, this is why I joined PC.
I enjoy much to decorate my tanks. And they have to be clean and pretty. I like play with plants and let them grow how they want.

I forgot to tell that I found some little catfish who are unknown(Hypoptopomatinae). They are spawning regulary.
Here I tell more;
http://sv.aqua-web.org/tuntematon.html
And I think that Shane put some translate in He`s pages.
Here are my babys today;
http://www.saunalahti.fi/pistia/kuvat/ottoparvi.jpg

Well, I made my Otocinclus they own tank before, and take best care I can. Much filterisation and current, right watervalues etc. I found that Otocinclus hoppeiwere spawning too.
And there are few small babys;

Its very nice to see that fish enjoy in tank, the best thing in this hobby.

My mom's parents and sister live in Heinola. Her brother lives in Savonlinna. My moms parents may move to Savonlinna though, because they have a cottage near Kerimäki (it is actually closest to Anttolan kylä). My grandma has an aquarium with one bristlenose and one other fish, I think it's a siamese algae eater (levä barbi). However, in the summer while we're at the cottage, my grandma's fish are a three hour drive away, but she leaves them a lot of weekend food and they survive on it just fine. My pen-pal has an aquarium too. I also wish there were more Finnish people here. I know Mika is from Helsinki, but I haven't talked to him yet. I am hoping to travel around Finland more some summer and I am hoping to visit Tampere some day. I have been in Finland twice in the winter but I was a baby then so I can't remember much. I don't mind snow or cold that much, but I'm sure winters here in Connecticut are nothing compared to over there. :) I love how your plants grow right out of your tank. My aquarium is pretty deep so my sword plant probably won't grow over the water.
