Catfish Identification

Post by Hypancistrus »

I took a trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore on 12.30.05. Got many very nice photos of the aquariums common exhibits and the new Australia section with my new digital camera. I posted all the pics at FishGeeks, and have yet to get a proper ID on three catfish species. If anyone is willing to help out, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

These two are from the Amazon River "Blackwater" exhibit:

There are additional pics of this guy at different angles scattered through the photos.

And this guy is from Australia:

Again, several pics of this species scattered throughout.

Thanks again for your help!

I definitely think that the first is some type of Oxydoras-- though maybe not niger, because it's cheeks aren't that sunken. I thought it looked like holdeni myself.

The dorsal fin doesn't look quite right for it to be a sailfin pleco in pic #2. It also doesn't look like a common pleco, either. Something a bit off the wall then....

And I was unable to search and find the scientific name in your third suggestion. Thanks very much for your help though!

The second fish looks more like Pterygoplichthys multiradiatus.
