Why not Acanthicus adonis

Post by featherback »

Are there other reasons except size to not keep Acanthicus adonis?

Thanks

Hi!

Imo 80cm to 1 m is good reason enough not to keep it.
Theres a lot of smaller similar looking plecos around.
cheers

Temperament. These are not exactly social fish.

Are they aggressive towards all tankmates even if there are no similarities and without provocation? Like for example the "black shark" Morulius chrysophekadion?

They can be aggressive to anything that tries to eat anything they think should be their food, yes. They have a pretty vicious disposition, IME. Once they get over 6", they'll happily take on all comers to defend their chosen morsel!

They can be pretty nasty to other tankmates, but just as nasty as any other threatened pleco I've found. I'd actually compare their aggression level to a sedate royal pleco (at least mine are quite forthright in manner when they want), but the A. adonis has much more of a penchant for moving around the tank and bulldozing any other fish out of its path.

They'd be a good tankmate for some bruiser C. American cichlids, up until you run out of tank space that is (which is a lot sooner than you would think).
