I think there's an Australian catfish website or forum but I don't remember what it's called; but Google should be able to find it, if it exists.

Bruce, my wife has a royal whip tail called Bruce, must be some thing about cat fish that brings the name Bruce to mind

Yes I keep two Salmon catfish and very nice they are too

I also keep Salmon Cats plus I have 2 Eel tail Catfish as well... oh boy I love my Salmon Cats (Sam & Felix) 11" long at the moment

Hi guys,
I know I'm a bit late to this post but I have 2 Catfish related to the Salmon Cat called Berney's Catfish (Arius Berneyi) see http://www.nativefish.asn.au/berneyscat.html

They are basically the same as the Salmon Cat but a smaller version and must be cared for in much the same way (Brackish conditions). Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with them as I'm hoping they won't get too big. I've had them for 7 months and they are about 10cm, trying not to feed them too much.

yes i kep Aus catfish, infact i breed them!

aus catfish are big in Japan

Second is any one interested in obtaining some ,MIGHT be able to ship some .

if you are from Bris you should be able to get many Aus cats
just ask your dealer.

FYI: the Cat-e-log (or what ever) does not have a ful range of Aus cats, off the top of my head i can think of about 20 or so species, i have kept about 15, almost 90 individuals!

Also there are no PNG cats in the Cat-e-log

there are at least 7 of them

Seriously, if you know about fish that aren't in the Cat-eLog, and you have at least some information on them, then you should fill in a data submission for the Cat-eLog so that there is a template to fill in with more info.

Yeah, well we don't see them very often at all in the UK. I'd love to add more Australian Cats to the site, but I need pictures and info...

I never found out what Bruce was. This was about 10 years ago, but from memory, the closest species in the cat-elog is Neosilurus gloveri

he was getting beaten up by a Synodontis nigrita, and i got rid of Bruce because no-one wanted the syno.

what an idiot!

last i heard he was still alive. but that was a few years ago.

I want him back!!

sorry i never got around to it

i couldn't do them these holidays because a leaf-toed geco crawled into the tower-thing and combusted, destroying the computer, but its fixed now so i can start them for you

I live in Australia and have seen the Salmontail cats around, they grow HUGE! I wanted to keep one but i jus dun hav a big tank.

I might hav a look at other species out ther, never knew there were other native cats in Aus!! hehe

I'm in Townsville (FNQ).

Where R U? I am breeding various Cories and have 2 royal whiptails, hope 2 breed them as soon as I relocate the 2 male Hoplos who get around the 4ft tank like a pair of teenagers on skateboards. Cheers

I have a small school of neon rainbow fish (maximum of 6cm)but i'd like to put them in a biotope tank, can you suggest an australian catfish to go with them,

I found arius jordani, but that grows far to big and needs salt water.

can you think of any other australian fish that would be good to mix aswell

The smallest Australian/New Guinean catfish is Porochilus obbesi (which is not a common species), maxing out at 12 cm. All other catfish from this region can reach twice this size or more.
