Ok, This is listed as Acanthicus micropunctatus here's a picture. It comes from the Nanay river in Peru

Rare to see any that are actually wild caught these days. I would have to check the holotype location to confirm this though.

believe it or not i picked an entire box of these up from a lfs back in the 90's. it came in listed as 2 in common pleco's oviously i realised they where something much different. they some how made it through LAX without inspection. never have seen them again. i ended up giving a nice colony to ginny ekstien in 95. i'll see if she still has them or if they are in pleco heaven.

How well would the market do for these guys? Does that bone structure behind his eyes have a name, or particular purpose....

Somewhere around the house I have a photo from a Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies (NEC) conference where Ginny, Lee, and I were speakers and the theme was "Focus on Catfish." I really treasure that photo as it is me with two people I consider mentors in all things catfish and good friends.

PS Just found one of the pens they gave out at the conference. It was 1998. It was the first conference I had been asked to speak at and I showed up with a suit and tie. Luckily, Lee took me aside and told me to lose the tie quick and get a beer. Ginny was at the US Catfish convention in October 2004.

Coryman,

That's great news. Wonder if she would join PC or has she already?
