odd Gibby

Post by Sillyfish »

hello all, i can't seem to get a good pic, so i'll have to describe him. ok, well i purchased a pleco about 2.5 months ago, in that time he has gone from 2" to 6", so he is quite the little grower. at the petstore (Big Al's) he was labeled as a brazilion Sailfin, but i've come to find that there is no such thing. so, i looked through the cat-e-log on this site,a nd checked everysingle pleoc picture, the only thing that he comes closest to is the Gibby. the odd thing is, is that the colouration is reversed. my pleco has the reddish brown spots with a dark brown body :/ he also has 2 wisker things (about 1cm in length), one on each side of his mouth. so, does anyone know what i ahve here? or he is some kind aof mixed species of sorts?

thanx in advance! i'll try to get soem pics of him if i can :)

Off thread a bit, but Silurus, since this is one of the smaller Pterygoplichthys species at 8 inches SL, would it be possible to keep a small group in a larger (180 or 220 gallon) partially planted (back and sides) aquarium without them eating said plants? I like their looks. I'd never keep Gibby's like this, but how about joselimaianus?

i know the quetsion wasn't pointed at me, but i'd just like to say that my L001 has never touched my live plants, i have him in with lilly pads, arrow head plants, java moss, cabomba, java fern, amazon swords, and a few others.i think if you provide enough food, both veggies and protien, then they'll leave your planst alone
