Synodontis decorus

Post by Tom »

I went into a LFS today and saw an interesting sight. Someone had traded in a large group of Synos he'd had 20+ years. What was interesting was the 2 decorus. They were 10-11 inches, and one had the typical markings. The other one was interesting- dorsal and caudal had typical striping along with dorsal extension. The odd thing was the body was solid gray. Doubt it was a hybrid- over 20 years old. Only thing I could think of was maybe a sexual difference. Tell me your thoughts.

Poll mentions that the adults sometimes lack spots.

I have one that is 16 years and it has the typical markings, should be easy to sex at that size.

I used to have one that was almost completely black. You could only make out the spots if you looked carefully.

EDIT: Likewise for the fin striping, which was scarcely visible. It was full-grown when I bought it, so I don't know if its pattern darkened over time, or was always like that.
