Another name question

Post by Marc van Arc »

It's very hard for amateurs to keep up with the changes: the new catfish for the CateLog (as of 7 august) by the name of Ageneiosus piperatus, is (was?) known to me by the name of Tympanopleura piperata. This genus doesn't only differ in size to Ageneiosus, but also by a different side-line (straight instead of curved). What happened?

The unpublished PhD dissertation of Stephen Walsh (1990) considers Tympanopleura and Ageneiosus to be synonyms (see the Burgess Catfish Atlas update in the October 1996 issue of TFH).

This is also the FishBase position, so I followed that.

Any chance of getting a copy of that TFH issue, one way or another?? Is it perhaps available on the internet?

You could ask Lee Finley (lfinley58) for a copy of the update.
