C. trilineatus or C. leopardus?

Post by Bathos »

i have one cory, a recently purchased juvinile. he/she is almost certianly either C. trilineatus or C. leopardus. since i don't have a digital camera, i was hoping someone could give me some tips on differentiating between the two.

(for those of you who are wondering, this is the only one of the bunch that died who actually made it. he/she is just fine, showing no signs of disease whatsoever :D )

Check the pics in the Cat-eLog. Corydoras leopardus has a longer snout than C. trilineatus.

These to pictures should help ID your fish but bear in mind that bothe species can be quite variable in colour pattern.

A little more info.

In profile C. trilineatus have a rounded head shape and an adult size of 50mm males, 55 females.
C. leopardus are deep bodied, have a sharper pointed head shape, almost straight from just above the eye to the tip of the snout. Their adult size is 60mm males, 65mm females.
Sises given are standard length (Tip of snout to caudal peduncle).
