Sid, I love it!!!! It seems like you've used the Duckweed to your advantage. I love how the plants are growing up the sides. Any chance of a close-up of the C.Robinae?

I've got uninvited duckweed. Maybe it's time to use it to my advantage.....

hey Sidguppy:
you realy shifted every sand grain in that (tanganyika)tank since the time we were at your place, right? It's that I know that it's the same tank, but you'd certainly wouldn't say so!

Yeah, I'm a stickler when it comes to details.

and I also tend to go from truly slothlike behaviour (without the algae in my hair), as in doing nothing at the tanks for months except waterchanges and being Imperial Couch-Potato, to extreme make-overs.

yup, I sieved the sand......in all 10 tanks! Something I won't do in a hurry; because I had to get up in the morning on hands and feet the days afterwards, wich was a hint from my back to say he didn't agree with me on that one

not exactly a catfishtank at the moment, little to much salt for my plecos. at the moment the tank is housing some Micropoecilia picta from Tobago.
when im no longer in slow motion, this tank will be rebuild into a "rivertank" after some good ideas from a other post here on PC.

Whitepine and I collected M. picta in the Orinoco around 2001. It is a wonderful fish. Interesting that you add salt to your population from Tobago as we collected them in blackwater. It was actually some of the blackest blackwater I have ever seen. On an interesting side note, my wedding ring is still at the bottom of the Orinoco. Hope Smeagal never finds it!

Here is my tank. This picture was taken in January 2005 before most of the plants had grown out.
Image

The tank was set up in late November and the fish added in Decemeber 2004 and January.

I will post a new picture but the Valiseria has grown to cover the back of the tank and several of the fish have been moved.

Currently housed are:

1 Peckotilia Sabaji
1 long finned ancistrus (unable to find scientific name)
1 common ancistrus
1 Gibby (sail fin Pleco)
8 Various Rainbows
5 Corys (aneus and leopardus)
1 Rainbow shark
1 flying fox

The tank is a 45 gallon tall. The substrate is flourite. Daily dosing of Kent Grow and Iron are added and the water (15%) is changed 2x a week with aged rap water

we found the M.picta in brackish water, inn small ponds and "streams" with connection to the sea. we didn't test the water for salt, but in one of the locations we tested, Gh, high 40,Kh about 20 and Ph around 7,5. it wasn't the most accurate test we had, but this is the results we got.

i throw in a picture of the location whit these parameters

OMG!!!!!!

WALLPAPER!!!!!
that's is NOT a "natural tank"

More like a community tank where the background is sorely missing.

Amanda,
Tank is looking much nicer. A litle background goes a long way.

Thanks, Shane. I also moved some of the taller plants to the sides. I'm hoping they'll fill and conceal the equipment better. I started this tank around the new year ('05). A lot of changes!

Are all those Rainbows males? They're all so colorful. Must be quite a boisterous tank!

rainbows

Post by hfjacinto »

Funny story, I went to purchase catfood at a one of the mega chain places. In the tank section they had Rainbows for sale with no price. I asked the high school kid who was working the counter, how much were the red rainbows. He looked around and saw the tag for cherry barbs at $1.19 each. He tells me the rainbows are $1.19 each. I tell him that it has to be a mistake. He calls someone else to give him the price and this person looks at the price for cherry barbs and also says $1.19. I take all 10. I got 4 Red Rainbows, 4 boesmani and 2 goyden river. 2 of the boesmani died within a week but all others look good. I know out of the 8, 6 are males, I might have 1 male red rainbow, his/her color is a greenish grey and 1 of the boesmani could also be a female, but since all the others are male, they might be subordinates and just haven't developed the size or color of the other males.

I'm always concerned abouit buying at this petshop, because once they had snowball plecos @ $3.99, I purchased both placed them in a qurantine tank and never saw them eat. They just withered away. :(

The asian-tank you see has exact 0 fish`s in becouse it had to much "sulforhydrogen" (in German: Schwefelwasserstoff) :( :( :( a year ago and I thought it would be better to wait with doing fish in till now :!:
Disscosions of what fish`s put in are welcome :!: :D
