Hypancistrus sp. L333/66/318....?

Post by Will »

Hi, I posted these pics a while ago, but nobody got back to me. They were purchased as L333, however I have my doubts, any idea what they could be? Cheers.

Ok, my first ID so it may not be 100% accurate!

I was gonna say that it doesn't look like my L66 - if thatâ??s what I've got :?

However, looking at these two photos I would be inclined lean towards the 66...

The head seems the right shape; it looks a little flatter on the L333 piccies. Thatâ??s only a noviceâ??s opinion, though.

I forgot to point out that 2 different fish are in the pictures, and they are about 2.5" in length. The 2nd and 3rd pics are of the same fish. Which pic did you think was an L333, or did you think they both are?

I am not so sure they are L333, the head dont look like that on these pic's...a better and sharper pic from the side that shows the shape of the head is needed, this can be a nicely patterned L66.

The stripes don't look like L066. They look like L270.

Hi!

I agree with Janne, the head and overall body makes me much more believe that it is L66!
But I agree the body pattern is mostly similar to L333.

You have a very nicely patterned L66
Cheers

The distance from the eyes to the tip of the nose is shorter at L333 that makes them look stubbier compared too L66...but at small sizes this can be hard to see, both species grows big and the differences will be more clearly with age and size.

This is a L66 around 9 cm.
