Chaetostoma

Post by paul_southend2k »

Is it me or is the Chaetostoma a rare find? there doesnt seem to be much info on any of the species....

In my local fish shop they have a tank with about 5 different species of Chaetostoma in!

Do these fish prefer to be alone or can i put several in a 60cm tank??

Any advice would be greatfully received...

They are somewhat territorial, so the number you can keep in a tank depends on its size.

Would i be right in thinking that I could keep two together in a 60cm tank and that the competition between two of them could be more healthy then keeping one on its own?

A 60 cm tank is about 10 gallons? That would be fine for two of the smaller spp. Just watch the competition for food to insure both are eating well.

I have one 3" Chaetostoma in a 75 gallon tank and he's the king. I've never seen such a small fish rule a tank. There are some fiesty Tetras in there, too. But, they do the submission thing when he sits on the food and defends it. He appears to get along well with Paleatus Cories. He swats at Otos.
