How many are too many for a grow-out tank?

I'm raising two sets of paleatus fry in the same 20gal tank, and as they get bigger it's starting to look a little crowded in there. Its hard to count them all, but I'd say there are at least 40-50 fish in various stages of development (largest is probably around 10-12mm).

The sources I'm following say that a half-filled 20gal tank should be adequte for a grow-out tank, but there's no mention of it's capacity. Seems like a lot of fish (even little ones). Anyone have a guideline they follow?

I should also mention that the tank gets a weekly 50% water change and is filtered by a cannister recommended for 35gal tanks.

If you keep doing your water changes the 20 gallon tank will be alright for growing them out. As the fry get larger you can raise the water level in the tank. I have raised more than 40-50 fry in a 20g but you will have to do water changes 2 or 3 times a week.

For my 2.5 ft planted tanks ... probably about 15 galloons ?
1200L/h canister filter
Water change minimum weekly & 60%.
Water condition: Perfect for breeding !!!

100x ? Lots of taiwan shrimps
5x Yamano shrimps .. with me for 2 yrs from adult!
