I think you are correct, However my lps sold him as a royal, he does resemble a royal, but I am not completely sure.

I just called the LFS. They are now saying that he is a Spotted Royal Pleco...
What's the differecnce? between a Royal & a Spotted Royal?
I bought him for $50.00 three weeks ago... What's he worth?

"Royal" (Panaqe nigrolineatus) has stright lines, not spots.

Yours is for sure L330.

It's hard to tell the size of the fish in your tank, as there's really nothing to compare with. $50 should get you a decent size (4-6" or so) 'regular' Royal Pleco, , aka L27, and depending on who you ask, yours will either be more expensive (it's not quite as common) or less expensive (it's not a "proper" Royal Pleco). I'd say that it's "more unique" so worth more.

It's very hard to value fish, because it's so dependant on the "current availability". Fish that is rare in the wholesalers/shops will be more expensive because there's less competition from other wholesalers/shops to get the same business. At the same time, if there's no buyers, it's no point in putting a big price on the fish, since there's no chance of selling it if there's no-one wanting to buy it.

Assuming your fish is bigger than a couple of inches, I'd say you paid a reasonable price for it.

Greame speak to Neil at Pier Aquatics, they have a couple in right now,

as for the tree's, it's just cherry tree, and i dont boil it i just put it in, after a couple of week's it goes furry but the fish seem to like it and then the wood look's good. my friend has a stump and the root's in his big tank and for the past 18 months his LDA 33 have been munching it down.
