L255 Spotted Medusa's - info needed ??

I'm getting 4 spotted Medusa's next week (L255's) and had a look on the net, but there is little info out there. Does anyone here own them or have more info about them ? They have a special tank set up ready and waiting just for them

I've had a pair of L255's alone in a 25g tank for nearly a year, and they have been extremely shy. They have stayed in their hideouts allt the time, and once a month I've lifted the roots and clay pipes to see if they were still alive.
However, a month ago I added a couple of Apistogramma borellii to the tank, and the L255's seem to be much less shy now. Last week I even saw them together - in broad daylight!

Hi Daniel. Thanks for the info. I received my 4 yesterday and so far so good ! Some have even ventured from their hiding places to see what's going on. They are really gorgeous ! Here is very quick pic of one - apologies for the bad lighting etc. and I will take some better pics when they are a bit more settled. They will also move across to a better suited sand tank soon, but under the current circumstances, where they are at the moment is best.
However I'm still pretty in the dark regarding these chaps and can't find much info at all on the net. Yes I do know they are related to the L034's and prefer similar parameters etc. but I'd love to hear from someone who have kept these successfully.

I wouldn't say I've kept them successfully. Sure, they are still alive and well, but haven't spawned yet. But soon the Apistos will move out, a few clay pipes added and the circulation increased from 6 times per hour to 20. And maybe...
The only thing I know about L34/L255 is to be extremely careful when choosing tankmates. Three years ago I had a pair of L34 with a pair of Aequidens tetramerus. That didn't end well.

I acquired about a dozen of the L255 last Winter. I believe they are all young adults at +-4". They were collected in the Rio Xingu where the temps get quite high, so I have them in 84 degree, soft, mildly acidic water. They seem to prefer meaty foods. They do not need wood to chew on, nor will they chew on the fry of other species.

There must be something I've yet to learn from my group about spawning. None of the females appear gravid and none of the males seems particularly territorial. I hope to learn that they are too young yet.

I have lost two of the fish for unknown reasons. They do seem particularly sensitive to old water and will begin to turn white on their "outer edges" if they are suffering from anything.

I believe that is nearly the sum total of everything I know about the fish. Good luck with them, Bloozoo2.

I have a common male BN I dont know if this helps but he is real shy and mine likes alot of water current. He always hplays in the bubbles and the filteration. hope it helps.
