Spotted Raphael Cat - think aka spotted dora

Post by jars104 »

Hi all

Got a small (2-3 inch) spotted dora in my Hagen 68. I've been seeing different messages about them. In the lfs they say he'll get bigger and eat all the neons in the tank. On some websites it states they are perfect for community tank.

anyways, question is, should he really be in my community tank - 4 platties (+ 1 fry) 6 neons, 3 bronze cory, 2 otto's, and a golden barb.

With fish larger then himself he should be fine but he may eat smaller fish like neons.

I tend to take the "fish eating habits" of any Doradid with a huge load of salt......

he'll take a neon-size fish, alright, when adult (wich is 5+ inch), but only if that fish lies torpid, near dead on the tankfloor....
unlike Pims wich are true hunters (hence the long whiskers!), Doradids are just oppertinistic.

proof:
Pectorale's tank wich houses exactly such a fish (among other cats) and wich is completely OVERRUN with baby Limia's!
