providing your tapwater doesn't contain nitrites, you are doing the right thing. if it's not going down, then change more water.

bear in mind that it will take a lot longer to cycle your tank when you do this. the benefit is, you protect your livestock from death.

unless you have very valuable or delicate fish, (which you shouldn't have in a tank that's still cycling) just let them ride through it.

adding a brand of filter bacteria, or better still bacteria from a real filter, will help a lot.

I am gettin worried as my neons are flicking on the gravel and my 2 guppys are as well, this is due to poor water quality isn't it? everything else seems all ok PH and all that just my nitrites

neons and guppys should be able to handle the nitrite.

if they are flicking constantly, it could be ich (whitespot).

those products will help yes.

go easy on the chemicals though......

i'm not too good with diseases, i'm afraid. my fish rarely get ill. he says smugly, crossing fingers and touching as much wood as he can.

Niether do mine but this is a tank i am setting up for my little sister and she wanted all your common little "pretty" fish as they do lol and i feel really bad they all keep dieing! could it be that she is over feeding them? if this is the case should i feed every other day or just minimise the feed daily?

bring some filter media or some gunge from your tank and put it in hers. that should sort it out very quickly.

i would stop feeding alltogether for about 5 days. resist all temptation to feed them!!
