I got this lovely little chap about a week ago. he's settling in nicely.

Now, is he an L004 or an L136?

i bought him under the non-existent L262 number.

the chap didn't know where he came from. next time i go back i will ask the boss.

the cat-elog says L004 has "medium-sized" and "well spaced-out spots"

now my fish seems to have much smaller and denser spots, like the L136.

the L136 doesn't seem to have the large dorsal and pectoral fins of the L004. my fish seems to have quite impressive finnage.

any ideas?

thanks.

I do not understand this statement.
L262 is indeed an existent number. And I believe your fish is a L262 - it sure looks like it.

Do you (or your LFS) know where is caught?

interesting........

all my knowledge of the current L numbering system is from this excellent website.

if you check the L-number section of the cat-elog, there is not an L262............

is it in datz or aqualog then?

klaus, feel free to fill us all in.............

unfortunately i don't know where they got it from. i'll try to find out next time i go back.

I agree, your picture look's almost identical to the fish in the Datz L-Number magazine...The picture for L136a appears(to me) to have larger spots than your fish..I could be wrong...JMO, David

regarding the size of spots. they definatly look larger on the the top left picture (1 of 15) but about the same size on the 3rd one below it (9 of 15).

i did a search on L262. it appears that L262 is the tapajos fish, while L136 is a very similar negro fish.

L262 has been removed from the cat-elog due to locality confusion regarding peckoltia L006, which is a completely different fish.

odd.

i'll try and get some more shots. i've only had him for about 2 weeks, so he's a bit shy and not got used to the feeding regime.

:D :D If you cannot find where it came from. L136 grows to 7cm,andL262 from Rio Tapjos grows to 8-10 cm. According to Aqualog. :D
