25g tank: 2 royal (L191 and L190) ?
25g tank: 2 royal (L191 and L190) ?
Hi everyone,
I know that a 25g tank is very small for panaque, but ....
I already have a 3" royal pleco (L191) in there, very nice, but not very active.
But today, I saw some nice 3" royal pleco (L190) at the lfs , there were like 6-7 in the tank. And the price on them was very very good to: 25$(CAN) a piece. Normaly the price range from 50 to 60$ for this kind of pleco ever here.
So, what do you think, will it be a good decision to buy one of them?
I aslo have an other choice, they also have other nice small pleco like L022, clown plecoand ancitrus and other one that look like ancitrus. I was thinking about buying a small L022 and a small clown pleco.
Thank You
Chouin

To take this back to the original thread: If you want to have Panaque species in a small tank, why not go for a small-size panaque, such as the . There are some other Panaque species that are similar sized, about 4-5" (100-130mm).
Take the (will be) big ones back to the shop and get ones that will fit in your tank.
Or get a BIG tank that is suitable for the fish you've got. You need something that is about 5' x 2' x 2' (or 150 x 60 x 60) to keep fish that grows to the size of P. Nigrolineatus. If you're OK with getting a tank that size, then get the tank first, then the fish.

I'm aware of the maximum size of Royals, but I don't see why they can be kept in a smaller tank while they are still young. I mean, it's obvious a full-grown Royal needs a very large tank with a very powerful filtration system, but is it necessary to house one or two 3" specimen in such a large tank???
Many people grow out juvenile fish in a small tank - which, as long as it meets the species-specific requirements, shouldn't be a problem, imho. It's not that a 3" Royal overnight outgrows a 25g tank, does it?
So as long as you know what you're up to, and are prepared, I don't see any problems housing two 3" pleco's in a 25g tank. But again, that's just me......
