New corys

Post by metallhd »

Hi all!! I just got some new guys, they were selling them as corydoras spp. Isn't that helpful? :?

Apparently they are corydoras wortoi, but a search on google returned exactly one result from a German page referring to Ian's web site. They look a lot like c. leucomelas, but they are all little guys maybe 1.5 cm, they came home from the lfs rather pale (but definitely spotted not striped) I will try to get some pics.

Can anyone help me with 'wortoi' ? Thanks!

remember seeing a note in w. seuss's Corydoras

Corydoras wotroi = Corydoras melanistis brevirostris

So I suppose you could be looking at Corydoras brevirostris now?

C. wotroi is a synonym of C. brevirostris, I saw a tank full of these just yesterday on a visit to Pier Aquatics in Wigan UK. As you say they are quite small at 25 mm sl.

Thanks for the replies, and the picture worth 1000 words!

They are pretty much exactly like that with these noteable exceptions. The 'head saddle' is not so distinct over the top of the head, but more importantly the under eye patch is very definitely triangular in shape on all 6 fish (pointed down), but as previously noted they are all juveniles. The spot pattern is almost identical though, uniformly spaced and sized small spots, but not so many yet on these youngsters. After looking at some other pics, though, I can say these are definitely c. brevirostris - the under eye triangle is quite distinct in many pics in the Cat-eLog, esp #8.

They are settling in nicely . . .

Thank you ! :D
