question about size of cory

Post by chrisinha »

i guess you all know i have an albino cory aeneus that had lost his tailfin. he's been getting better, he's been swimming more, therefore, he seems to be more active. the thing is he is visibly much smaller than the other 3 cories i have (same species). while the other three are about 1.5", he is 1". i know it might not sound so much of a difference, but it is when you look at them. also, he much skinnier too. could it be because of the health problem he's had? will he catch up? i dont see him eating (scavenging like corys usually do). the only time he seems to get some food is when he is on the top of the pleco's log/hut. he seems to go after the flakes leftovers. he swims a lot to the surface of the tank, and sometimes swims across the whole 10 gallon tank doing it.

At the size of your albinos i would say they are very young and the fact the two are quite a bit larger could be an indication that they are females. generally females grow larger than males and in the case of albino C. aeneus it can be around a 20%diferential.

i hope that's just it. i'm still so worried about lil Joe (im gonna call him Joe). The other cories look like they even have a lil belly! am i feeding too much? i dont know because the mollies always "atack" their food. i usually give them 2 omega one shrimp pellets, or just an algae wafer a day, but im sure they also get the mollies' flakes leftovers. i'm seriously thinking about moving the cories and the pleco to a different tank, and leaving the Mollies and guppies by themselves! :?

I used to keep corys with swordtails and mollies, and the corys always seemed to get bullied and pushed around by them at feeding time. Although the corys eventually got enough food (they were so diligent about eating the leftovers), it was a LOT less hassle when I moved them to a separate tank. Also, my male corys look rather slim compared to the females (as Coryman said), and I can assure you all are well fed :D .

yeah, i'm not sure if i should do it now though, especially after all the stress Joe has gone through. On the other hand I wonder if moving him to another tank will help him recover faster. maybe i could move the Mollies and the guppies instead. hmm, i'm going to think more about it!
