Got a second Bristlenose...

Post by MatsP »

I went to a different LFS (local-ish) yesterday. They had a larger selection of L-numbers than I've seen anywhere else. Sorry, I didn't make a list, but they had about 8-10 different L-numbers, and a few other interesting fish.

In one tank, they had a breeding set of three bristlenose's, with it's fry in with the parents. They must have had 3-4 different spawns in the tank, only a couple of fry from each spawn, but the size varied from just over 15mm (~1/2") to about 30mm (1 1/4") for the bigger ones.

In anothe tank, they have some 50mm (2") bristlenoses, with nice bristles on some of them. Since my one is slightly bigger than this, and doesn't show any bristles, I went ahead and bought one of the ones WITH bristles, to see if they'll take a liking to each other. Of course, they may not even be the exact same specie, since some of them look awfully similar... ;-)

He looks to be pretty happy in his new home so far, and hopefully he'll grow to be a bit bigger than the supposed female that we're still calling Gus.

The new one is being called Warren.

Fine at the moment. Quite active and eating courgette, once I'd figured out that I need to feed a piece each, and not expect him to go for the single piece I've been giving Gus.

I'll probably do something about the furniture in the tank tho', as he's currently hiding in a pile of stone that I've got on the corner, and I'd prefer to have a piece of wood for him... Just need to get some time to re-arrange things, probably at the weekend.
