wasn't talking specifically about the sturgeon guys...pardon me  it's just that alot of species start out life with beautiful markings and end up with either dull or no markings at all.

To my eyes, this fish could easily be an inbreed of several species. Russian have produced a lot of crossing of the Acipenser spp's, infertile for the commercial export marked to private and display ponds.

Acipenser guldenstadti, A. ruthenus (both european and sibirian var.), A. sturio (and one more, that I do not recall at present) should all have been crossbred, as far as i know.

Quite confusing, I think, and my eyes can't tell them apart, untill the Beluga sturgeon reaches considerable size. - I do think that the bony plates are a bit to pointy for Huso huso, thought.

My point: If the pic is from a local fishstore, it is to me very possible, that is is an inbreed of Acipenser, but still a very interesting fish.
