Breeding questions...?

Post by Jeff B. »

HI!
I am trying to breed my panaque maccus, with no succes yet...
With them i am planning to breed(in the near future :D ) also my new L201...
I was thinking about tank setup... cuz i am planning 2-3 new tanks in my little fishroom!
Is 40L(10G) enough for breeding clown pleco/hypancistrus or should i make bigger tank(60l or 80l)??
Also, what do you prefere, bare bottom or substrate??
...cuz i am planning to breed in bare bottom tank, with dark bottom(painted or i will simply put black paper under it...)
Caves... well, i will try to make some, i have read from varius articles about it, and i think i can make something out of it...
Food... well, i have varius sinking tablets(nutrafin, tetra, some algea wafers), also i have bloodworms and dried tubifex from sera...
Now it is not the time for cucumber, but maybe i will find some in stores... - do you think that is a good diet for breeding??
well, hope you will hepl me with your experience...
Kind regards

:) hiya Jeff :) may I ask you how big are yours clowns? My female is about 8cm and she looks gravid :P but I cannot find a male for her :( I just wonder how big male has to be to be able to breed :P

Worton, i have 3 clowns, 2 females and 1 male... One female is 8cm, and she is definetly gravid, also my second female is a little bit smaller but she is gravid to:-))
Male is around 6cm, and when he shows you sexual dimorphisam, he is ready... my is a hairy little bastard... :D
Good thing is that my biggest female is not blood related to other to clown pleco's...

I would also like to breed P. Maccus in the future, but my fishes are too small yet.

I think you will have a big chance in breeding your P.Maccus if you make some good caves for them.

I have read many articles, but with my limited knowledge of english, i have misunderstood them...
Now, i will try better tank setup, and then maybe i will succede...
Larry Vires once told me that key in breeding p.maccus is in 2 months dry period... currently i am holding my clown pleco's in show tank at 28°C... when the time comes, i will transport them to my breeding tank, where I will lower the temp. day by day...
