Rhino Pleco

Post by noki »

a LFS told me that they stock and sell Rhino Plecos because they are "armor plated and tough like a Rhinocerous", and they are the best Pleco for cichlid tanks because of their tough Rhino skin.

sure they may be tough and hardy, but so are other similar Plecos which are not as ugly.... anybody ever hear of marketing the Rhino Plec like this :?:

Common names normally refer to how they just look.

He isn't referring to the actual fish being like this description, he is asking if anyone has ever heard of marketing/sales strategies like this... And sadly, yes, it is common for uneducated LFS employees to make statements such as this. In all honesty, I don't think the rhino is really all that tough at all, and it is just basically a really plain looking pleco... As for being good for cichlid tanks because of its "rhino skin"....I do believe that's one of the funniest claims I have heard in a while, lol. If you want a pleco for a mean cichlid tank, solution is a get a really big adonis, lol.
