Filter Question

Post by MackIntheBox »

Im looking at upgrading the filtration in my 55 Gallon tank (generic tank from petsmart). Currently there are not many residents, 3 tiger barbs, 2 feeder guppies (althhough they wont last long ;)), a S. Am. Bumblebee Jelly Cat, 2 gold gouramis, and 2 common plecs (both about 8 inches long nose to tail, one will be given or sold soon).

I am wonering if anyone has experience with Aquarium Pharm. Filstar Canister Filters and what your experiences with them are. Im looking at the Filstar XP2 Canister Filter.

thanks in advance

I have the XP2, but I have it on a 29 gal. tank. It's my first canister filter, so I have nothing to compare it to. The input-outputs are horrible. I bought pieces from the Pentair Custom Flow to round out the system. If you plan to add any fish or plants, you might want to think about the XP3. There are only 2 baskets. The hoses are also 16/22mm(5/8"). I switched out the hose, too. Then again, all filters may be this way. Has anybody found another filter that's better?

The Eheim filter system are probaly the best. My local Deathmart price matches to online sellers. Find a vendor online, print out the page and take it in... Just make sure it is the Exact same product.

Good luck.
