Thanks Rusty! I figured it was probably a synonym with something else and thats why I couldn't find any info on it.
It might not be them I think I might order some though. I'll get to find out what they are They are wild caught so they aren't some strange hybrid.
Any idea how big these fellows get? Territorality? If indeed thats what they are. They are at aquariumstuffers if you want to see for yourself. They are only 14.99 each so I think I'll get 4 or 5 but I'm not positive yet. Thanks again!

They are probably juvinile S. clarias that have been showing up as contaminants in S. nigriventris lately.
I picked one up for $2.99 not too long ago although they do look allot like the juvinile picture of S. bastiani! I could understand the possible (mis-) identification.

We do have LFs where is two of these. They came along with other African shipment of catfishes. The maximum reported size for S. bastiani is 280 mm (11"), but they are only known from the Ivory Coast, from which hardly any aquarium fish exports come.
Well i wish i was a catfish

OK, so does anyone have a pic of a juvinile S. clarias? Because based on Johnny Jensen's pic of a juvinile S. bastiani I am having my doubts about the fish I have.
What features am I looking for to differentiate these two species?

Johnny's pics are of a young S. schall, as Erwin posted here.
