I have two Farlowella cats who match the general description of Farlowella vittata, however, they are significantly larger than the size cited on the Cat-eLog. The Cat-eLog says six inches and my male is at least 12 inches and my female is around 9 inches. They both have two rows of belly scutes. Any ideas?

No. I know it's crazy that they are so large but that is their size without caudal fins and filaments. That's why I'm hesitant to call them Farlowella vittata. They grew out in a hundred gallon tank and then were moved into a 325 gallon tank as adults. But I'm sure that the size listed on the Cat-eLog is the size they can reach, regardless of enviroment. Is there another species of Farlowella that is similar to F. vitatta only larger?

Several Farlowella spp., including F. vitatta, can reach close to 12" SL. F. vitatta, as presently accepted, includes several formerly valid spp.
