Pond Advice

Post by MackIntheBox »

Hi all :)

I have a friend that has a pond on some property he just purchased. I havent looked at the pond yet and wanted to know what information I would need about the pond itself. Right now Jeff says the pod is very murky and dirty, there may be turtles and such living in it but he is not sure. thepond does not have any lining, I beleive that it was dug out. Can this type of pond have clear water or will it always be somewhat murky?

Im not sure how big it is, I will find out more details about the pond this weekend. What info do you need about the pond and is there any general advice you guys can provide about pond care? Im still researching myself right now, I tried a search here on the forum but couldnt find anything that applied.

thanks in advance for the help

I would highly recommend that your friend pick up a good pond book. Ponds are much more than "big aquariums." If it is a natural type pond, then lots of plants will be the best way to keep the water clear. TFH recently published a series of new pond books. I would recomend Terry Barber's "A Simple Guide to Garden Ponds."
