Gold Nugget Confusion!
Gold Nugget Confusion!
How different are the 4 types of Gold Nuggets (L18, L81, L85, L177)? I see from the Catfish of the Month article pictures that it seems pretty clear. But when you go the the individual profile pictures it seems to be not as clear. I have a Gold Nugget that was sold to me as L81, but it looks like it is L18 or L177 to me. It is really dark with very bright gold spots. I have had it for 2 years now. It was only 1.5" when I got it now it is maybe 2.5". Is this kind of slow growth normal? Do they really reach 12"-14"? Any help or comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for all the kind replies! The main reason I was asking about the different Gold Nuggets is I would eventually like to get more Gold Nuggets. I know they are hard to breed but I did not want to take the chance of hybrids should a miracle happen. And since it is so hard to know which Gold Nugget is which, I want to somehow try a avoid adding new Nuggets that will grow to 12" if the one I have now is going to top out at 6" or less. I think I might just be happy with the one beautiful Gold Nugget I have now until things become more clear.

The thing is you can only compare them when using specimens of the same size. Adults of one looks like young of another etc. Probably only two or three species mind you.
