Ancistrus dolichopterus breeding

Post by Matheus »

Hello friends.
I talking about my pleco in the identify room, then, i think is correct put here. I have one Dolichopterus, but i want breed, i will buy other. How can identify the sex of them? The spawn is easy to happen? Can i breed them in my planted tanks with Tetras? Or need a separate aquarium for breed like other fishes?
Sorry, my knowledge of Plecos are so small, but i like so much them.

Cheers,

Breeding Ancistrus dolichopterus

Post by Crom »

G'day

Male ancistrus have lots of bristles on their face. Dolcihopterus is no different. The females have perhaps 2 that are really noticable that stick out the very end of her face.

Im not sure why, but these guys seem to take longer to mature than common bristlenose. My males were about 7-8 cm (SL) before they decided it was time to make babies. Females a bit smaller.

Crom! :headbang:
