Care of Clown Plecos
Care of Clown Plecos
Can anyone give me a brief care guide(and yes I have read the guide on this site) and do you really need to have numerous driftwood pieces or will 2 suffice? Also just how good are these guys with algae-cleaning? List your experiences with them also, if you'd like to. Thanks in advance

Clown plecos do need some bogwood in the tank to eat and for hiding places but not massive ammounts of it just make sure they always have a few pieces to chew on,They also arn't great algae eaters,I have only seen my clown plecs on the glass 2 or 3 times in the 8 month's ive had them.

Clown pleco is the wrong fish to buy to fight against algae. The algae will surely out grow what they eat.Mkcube wrote:OHH! Man! I just bought two of them today. I wish I had seen this post earlier. Even though they are not great algae eaters will they still eat it, at least enough to help with my algae problem? I don't have a ton of algae but the bit I do is hard to get off and always returns..

mine wont touch any algae at all, i wouldn't count on any Panaque doing that job for you. but he eats my veggies (potato, cucumber) and devours my african root wood. it might not be his most preferred wood but he leaves piles of sawdust and it quite healthy and FAT so he must be gettting all he needs.
