Hi all. I've created a page on an external site (too many pics to post here).
Please have a look here
http://www.geocities.com/bluegenie_sa/catfish/index.htm
and identify this catfish for me.
Many thanks.

Was sold as a red tail catfish
the LFS says he's a red tail.
Here's some details about him, he's definately nocturnal, doesn't like bright lights, we suspect he ate about 8 fish from our communal tank, including guppies, harlequins and tetra. The guy at the LFS said it was fine as a communal fish.

very, very imposing in a "1 fish only-solo tank" though.
a great looking fish, if you have the room for such a beast and it's proper housing.
and handfeeding it while having visitors will definitely make a great show-off; much better than boring ol' Piranha's anyway!
just spotted this in the description in the Cat E Log:
9,5 meters!!
now THAT would be something to see!
A vicious, handbiting terror the size of a city bus......knowing he's probably in Asia somewhere.....anyone seen HH lately?
don't go for that snorkle, Silurus; you might get into some serious trouble

Just getting a second opinion. Relax!
Due to the amount of discrepencies amongst various people, i just wanted to make sure, and since i got some clearer pics, i figured they might be able to shed some light on some characteristics that may have been missed, that's all.
So sarcasm aside, thanks.

While it may not be something you realized as a new member, Silurus is absolutely fantastic at identifying MOST species of catfish. Not just specializing in any particular group. He doesn't get paid for all of the time he spends here helping people. I'm glad you got your identification all worked out

Obviously a typo (the size is given as 950mm) that I have now fixed.Silurus wrote:That has to be a typo. This species does not even reach 1.5 meters.9,5 meters!!
