Hello from England.

Post by Subedei »

Hello all

The purpose of my first post is to introduce myself.
I've been keeping fish for 6 months with a distinct leaning towards Catfish.
I`ve got a 90 Gallon tank with 5 (various types !, see sig) in and a 15 gallon tank with a pair of Otos.
My Corys are also in the 15 gallon along with a few barbs and a pair of small freshwater shrimps.

I would like to tame my bigger catfish but my tank is over two foot deep, it`s a major task to catch one and very stressful for the whole tank, my Bala sharks go loopy if I put a net in the water...so I haven`t tried....

anyway.. enough !

Regards

hi everyone i,ve been using this site to identify my growing family of plecs, what a great site very helpfull.I,m new to tropical fish but my father has kept tropicals for about 30 years. i,ve had a rio 180 for about 6 months with(luckily no problems) but seriously considering the 400 litre.we started with a large bristlenose sp3 and then a common l 21 i thinkthen l 72 l081 l030 l200 sp2 lo37 l 191lo 83 and a spotted doridae with one eye the kids call dory! plecmad? At the moment the gibicep is the largest at about 3.5 inches these all get on fine, with the exeption of the prince tiger and bristle nose who get a bit territorial. There is plenty of real plant wood and asian reef rock

Good to meet you all, thanks for responding to my posting

It looks like I`m going to have to look up the latin names and the L numbers for my plecs !
I ought to be describing them properly !
I`m still not sure what the brown one is and my Golden Nugget seems to have more than one L number.....
I know my Otos are Otos but I`m not sure which sort, not that it matters, they`re doing a good job keeping my smaller tank clean.....

I`m thinking of getting another tank so I can have more Plecs, my 90 gallon has 5 in it and they have to share the bottom with 4 Clown Loaches. They don`t fight but the Starlight and the Bristlenose sometimes have a flap at each other, nothing serious, just handbags-at-dawn stuff. They are very similar so I assume thats to be expected.

I can put the tank in my computer room, my servers will drown out the noise of the airpump!

Regards

Ah... Not far from me, I`m in Sittingbourne. I`ve bought fish from there before. From what I can see 85 quid is not expensive by any means. Too much for me though, my wife would throw a fit if I spent that sort of cash on one fish... especially if it turned it`s toes (fins?) up after one week !!

I`m not a great fan of the store though, I don`t like the way they have that big red tail cat stuck in that silly little tank under the plants...

The one in Cantabury Rd in Gillingham is a nice shop but they are not cheap and don`t have a lot of stock. My main shop is a small independant in Teynham (5 mins drive) or if I want a bigger choice I go to Maidenhead aquatics on the outskirts of Dartford.

I haven`t been to either of those, I`ll have to check them out....my local shop has hardly any plecs but I like to use him as he is a new independant retailer trying to compete with these aquatic garden centers. I bought one from him but I`ve sourced most of my plecs from elsewhere.

golden nugget plec L numbers

Post by Aquamick »

In responce to Subedei, the L numbers for the golden nugget plec, baryancistrus sp, are L018, L081, L085 and L177. L018 lives around Altamira on thwe Rio Xingu, lower down stream is L081. L081 is sometimes called the Small spot golden nugget or Xingu orange seam pleco.L177 is found in the Rio Iriri and is known as the Iriri yellow seam.L081 (with small spots) grows to 17cm approx, but the others reach 25-30cm. I hope this helps! :) [/quote]
