Clean Glass

Help please with that age old nugget of what's good at cleaning the glass.

My local suppliers can offer me the following

L66
Orange Spot Pleco
Gold Marble Bristlenose
Pecklotia vittata

From your vast experiences which one will keep my glass the cleanest. I've just about discounted the P. vittata after reading the Cat-elog. Any advice would be appreciated even if it's to say no to all of them.

I have two tanks, the other tank is kept sparklingly clean by a few Otocinculus. Tried two Otto's in the other tank over the weekend but the three Angel Fish in this tank thought the Otto's were "suppertime". So whatever I go for has to be too big for Angel fish but not to grow too much as the tank is only 30gallon.

I also vote for the bristlenose. They are great about earning their keep ;)

Hi!

THe best at cleaning the tank glass: uh the Aquarist!!!

The given Loricariidae might give you a hand, but they aren't there to do the weekly keeping work you should do, but for sure the Bristlenose will help you limit or control the algae growth...

Whilst the UV sterilizer might be the best, somehow I don't think it will be as fun to watch as the Bristlenose.

Thanks for your help...and also thaks for saving me some cash. The Bristlenose is the cheapest by far, just hope the shop still has one left.

Mind you the L66 in the shop is a lovely little beasty, mmmm do I have space for another tank!!!

Do you know what type of Algae you have trouble with. As I found Otos love brown, Pl*cos love green, None I have will eat hair.

So I used Algae fix in the water. I was nerveous because this was in my planted tank. The stuff works great! No harm to my fish or Plants but the Algae is gone

I just keep feeding my cleaning crew with tablets and such.

Another fish is allways fun tho

Hair and other "problem" algaes are usually caused by an imbalance of nutrients of one type or another. I usually don't recommend dumping any "fix" product in to correct it, as without correcting the source of the problem, the algae will just recur later on, IME.

Hi!

My Hypostomus cochliodon group fishes mowed down hair algae...keeping in mind that the also finished off Javafern and Anubias...

I heard that Platys are good against algae but cant confirm as i dont have any...

A yep a imbalance is the cause of the hair algae in my case. No Co2 in a planted tank, high lighting. But it's been over 2 months now since I used the algae fix stuff. I'm still pleased with it. And to spite all my plants and fish are great

Platys do like algae but they nibble only small amounts. I had over 40 fry and 4 adults and still had a ton of algae.

Me...to be a little different....I'd go with a bristle nose

You'll be pleased to know the little Bristlenose is happily swimming round the tank. Well not so little actually, if the "catelog" info is right (which I am absolutely sure it is before I get myself into trouble with any of the editors!) then it's only got inch if that to grow.

And yes...I have my eyes on the next wall space that will be disappearing behind a tank.
