Anorexic Tandanus

Post by Marisa »

Hello there! My normally insatiable tandanus has stopped eating! He used to have up to six pellets a day and now eats nothing. This has been going on for a week. Just a few days ago I noticed one of his rear fins is red but this is clearing. He has never had any illnesses in the five years I have had him and this is concerning me. He has always been a very healthy eater as well and will come out of his barrel as soon as he sees me to get his food which he rarely lets sink to the bottom. The only disturbance in the water was a slight acidic reading but all else was normal. We have recently hit the first cold snap of winter which normally sees him slow down but not this much. Any ideas??
I was gonna head off for some Mela Fix as a general antidote today for him. :?

How often do you do water changes? How much do you do when you do them? Did you recently move his tank? How large is he and the tank he inhabits? Have you tested ammonia or nitrites? Those would be things I'd consider before I ran off for melafix, personally.

Try giving him a little live food -- worms, for example -- at lights out.
