Ill ancistrus?

Post by LimpingFish »

Hiya.
This is my ancistrus -
Image
About a week ago, i found it lying on its back on the gravel. A few seconds after, it was okay again (got back to sucking the wood in the tank).
He was ok, until today, when i saw that he has a white spot on his belly, it doesnt look much like cotton..
Picture of it ->

(the other white spots that you can see on the bottom left of the picture were always there)
The temperature is 26 (Celsius degrees), dont know about the ammonia/nitrate.
There are plenty of live plants in the tank.
Any ideas what this white spot is? Fungus?
:O

Any other symptoms (other than the spot and lying on its back)? The white spot kinda looks like a regular abrasion.

Hi!

Ive regularly noticed my different Ancistrus sp. "sleeping" in a belly up position. Seems to be a normal thing for them. Maybe they fall off the caves/wood piece theyre attached to when falling asleep...just a theory.
The white patch looks like its from a fight...
cheers

Thanks for the fast replies,
there aren't any other symptoms (at least not anything that i know of)
I'm happy to read that the belly-up position is normal
A fight? Who could've done that? I also have in this tank Japonica shrimps, kuhli & clown loaches, SAE's and Cardinal tetras..
Thanks again

So, there's nothing to do, beside of waiting untill it gets better?

I just use some anti-virus medicine to treat the similar symptom.

But one died, another is still with the symptom.:(

I'd go with Heok Hee on this one... That's pretty typical for the location/appearance of bites from aggressive Botias. I keep clowns myself and I'm much more used to seeing this kind of behavior from B.modesta & horei but anything's possible (as well as eating the shrimp).
