I have seen a good post about a fellow who actually went and visited Mr Amano and saw the tank first hand. It's 1200 gallons, and believe it or not it's mostly one piece of wood, a giant hunk of stump that sits like a big tripod. The tank sits in open air, it is not enclosed in a room. Can't find the post of course but take my word for it?
There are some good pics on Plantella's site
EDIT - BTW all you may want to check out this extraordinary Korean site if you like Amano pics
