Hi!
Can you take a pic of the teeth? To me it looks like L77 Cochliodon sp. (the one pictured in DATZ not the one here on PC)

my unid'd plec...
thanks to all who responded, i still have no idea what it could be.
the nearest out of the lot of yas i would say is an L77. but it is hard for me to say what colours that fish is displaying. is it stress colouration from being out of the water?
the colours on my fish are as true as you can get. it was taken with a £700 digital camera, printed out on photoquality paper at £5 a sheet. i took it in this way to get the colours right. and those are the colours. when he is in the tank, he displays a very rich brown/almost burnt orange colour with the dark banding.
i am going to try and get up another pic. it is a close up head shot taken at night on the same digital camera. i was doing a water change so it is a bit messy.
will post a reply with link to pic.
thanks.

do you mean putting up the pics like i did a minute ago? theyre really small and i dont think they can be made bigger here on the site. i'll try and upload one now, bigger............
cool it worked! sorry to be a dumbass, but if you knew me well, you'd understand!!!!!! anyway heres the other two!!!!!!!!!

@ Chris
Yes but only because I am awfully exhausted... if not you can't
Given a second look and a first at L77
Both L37 and L77 look really to close... very strange that two species from different location can pocess such highly similar pattern....
Jon's work putting Cochliodon into synonymy with Hypostomus take all its sens when you look at both fish...
Would be interesting to make a comparative study of ADN of both if they really have different teeth shape...
Cheers

Hi!
I would also believe it is L37 for the following reason and have re thought about it...
* L77 is often mis id ...
* so far the true L77 is known from only one picture the one that was published in Datz
Both reason show clearly that is a very rarely imported fish, even possible that it has yet to be imported...
Now the only piece of doubt regarding L37 is, does all the imported speciemens of L37 are coming from the Rio Araguaia... or does any of them were caught in the Rio Parnaiba region...
Cheers

a reply from another site...
hi all, thought i would throw this in amongst the other messages, you may or may not have stumbled across it:
" I remember your post about this fish on
planetcatfish.com. I do agree w/ the folks that
suggested your fish matches the "L077" on
http:www.l-welse.com, and I even thought of this fish
when I seen yours. But it's also known that that fish
pictured on that site is NOT the rusty pleco...L077.
So there's a good possibility your fish is 100%
unidentified, having no L-number or anything. I
personally would be proud of that fact alone..hehe
But considering the imperfection of the L-number
system, it's possible your fish could be another #
that lacks properly identified pictures on the
internet.
Many of the brown Hypostomus don't get any attention
because they aren't brightly colored. Like my LDA24
Recife, another Hypostomus that can't be identified
w/o the aqualog or original magazine it was published
in...I tried!
Sorry I couldn't be more of a help but just take good
care of it and maybe it's ID will come up sooner or
later, I have a few catfish like this and I like em
them that much more because even the experts don't
know... "
still no mouth pics yet - will be up soon.
cheers,
Dave@ BMFH
