Catfish Keep Killing My Other Fish

Post by jduva2000 »

Hi All,

My Suncats keep killing all the other fish in my tank. Yesterday I lost another mollie. Last night I was watching them in the tank and they keep circling other fish while they are eating and nipping at them. I only have three mollies left. I also have two Angels that are about a year and a half old and are quite large. I really don't want to wake up and find them mangled.. Are they attacking other fish out of their aggressive nature? Or are they maybe hungry and I should be feeding them more food? I am feeding them flake and frozen food every day. I know I might be pushing my luck here, but does anyone have any ideas on how I can stop the carnage?

Thanks to all that reply!!

I would remove the mollies entirely. It's a foregone conclusion that they will all be eaten if you keep them in there. The sun cats are just being their normal selves, so there is nothing else you can do.

Gorgeous fish, but aren't they predators who get rather large?

I would remove the Angels as well as the mollies, to be safe. Or I'd remove the suncats to their own, larger tank and make it a species tank. With a really, really large tank you could give them tankmates who will grow as large as they (despite jumping continents, I'm thinking of the large common plecs, if their growth rate would keep up) but I think you would need a very, very large tank to accomplish this.

They will get to be about 18". If you do a search of the forum there's quite a lot of discussion regarding them (Horabagrus brachysoma).
