CSG Convention update

Post by Coryman »

I would like to announce a change to the agenda of this years Catfish Study Group convention to be held on March 21st.

The bad news: -
Owing to a new posting to Iraq, Shane Linder has had to withdraw as the CSG's overseas speaker for this years convention. I am sure that all fellow CSG and PC forum members will join me in wishing Shane a safe trip.

The Good news is: -
That we have secured the services of Jon Armbruster as overseas our speaker, who will I am sure will enlighten us all with his extensive knowledge of Loricariidae.

For further details visit the the CSG website <http://www.Catfishstudygroup.org> or contact my off list.

HI Ian!

Yes We all wish Shane a safe trip there and not to do something stupid like...well you know, sincerly hope you'll be home soon...

Also great news to have Jon coming to give a talk...

Now For a Swiss guy like me that would love to assist at the convention, what would be the best way to come there, like where should I land to be close enough...

Cheers
Yann

Manchester is the nearest major airport. After that, Newcastle or Glasgow.

That said, if you are only staying for a couple of nights, fly to Edinburgh and stay with me, Clare and Johnny Jensen for the weekend. We will be travelling down on the Saturday, hitting the shops (BAS and Pier Aquatics at least), dinner with the comittee and speakers (I think - Ian has this been arranged) and then early to the convention in the morning.

The committee dinner is definitely on just getting an appropriate venue sorted.

Glad to see JJ is coming again.

Yann, it would be good to meet you as well, hope you can make it.

Hi Yann,

Just to top off what Ian was saying that it will be good to meet up with you and put a face to the words :) and also to speak to JJ again. I will be adding a banner to the front page of the site to hopefully get more visitors to the convention and maybe more from our catfish friends overseas.

Sadly I've just got an email from JJ saying he can't get the time off work to make it either. :-(

Ian, can you scratch one off the dinner list? Also, do you have the address of the restuarant (postcode) as I need to look into accomodation nearby.

Cheers,

Jools

Hi Yann,

Yes a good day all round with a very interesting talk/slide show by Jon Armbruster on the bone structures of the Loricariids and then a second talk by him on his trip to Guyana. Well worth the admission fee alone.

A talk by Dr Peter Burgess on Catfish diseases was very informative also, and scarey :) with some good slides of many beasties that make their way on to the bodies of our cats.

Hope you can make it next year and meet us all.

AJ

BTW, anyone that was there, can you please post the title or whatnot of the book Dr. Burgess recommended? I think I'd like to add that to my library.

Cheers,
