Panaque Nigrolineatus (Royal Panaque)

Post by RoyalRyan »

I have a 180l South American tank containing-

1 L066
1 L177
1 Gibbiceps
2 Angels
3 Neons
2 Marbled Hatchets
2 Corydoras Julli

It is heavily planted and has plenty of bogwood and a cave occupied by the L177. Can I add a small 3-4inch Panaque Nigrolineatus? Will he get on with the other L-numbers and will he out grow the tank if so how quickly do they grow? I have also heard they are very distructive when older and can rearrange a tank to their liking moving everything. :o

My Gibbiceps will move in two or three months to a 40g tank dedicated to him and a Kissing Gourami soley.

i have a small L191 and it destroyed the plants in my tank in a few days. if u wanna keep the plants, dont buy the fish. it will be able to live in such a tank perfectly.

I have four P. Nigrolineatus and all of them have gone from 1.5 in to over 6 in in the last five months. So word to the wise if they eat it they will grow.

Ive been looking into these guys for a while and have heard many stories about the plant eating. Does anyone know how aggressive they are towards other plecs when they are full grown?

Wow KURT, that's cool! How big of a tank are they in, and what do you feed them? I heard that some plecs will fight; you don't have these problems? I've heard of an absolute horror story where a Panaque suttonorum (I think that was the species) absolutely ripped apart another! :(
