Cory unusual behavior
Cory unusual behavior
I recently had a water problem in my tank, w/the water becoming very acidic. Got that under control, but ever since (3 days now) my 3 albino cory cats have been rapidly swimming laps of the tank, about 2/3 of the way up the tank. I don't know if they are "playing" or if they are agitated, and if this behavior has anything to do with the water problem. Can anyone help?

Ever have a Corydoras spawn in your aquarium before?
From your brief description, sound to me this might be what's going on. I would presume solving your pH problems included several large volume water changes, no? This is frequently a spawning trigger for Corydoras.
Are they swimming around highly agitated, or sluggishly? Spawning is frequently preceeded by lots and lots of frenetic activity. Then again, I do tend to be an optimist!

They are swimming very quickly, one right after another, like they are playing "follow the leader"! My cats are fairly new (a couple of months) and I've never had a spawning that I know of. Thanks for the info, I'm glad to know that all the activity could be a normal thing and not a problem w/the fish.

My three bronze cories and one albino bronze like to swim back and forth in whatever tank they are in exactly how yours are doing. These fish are all female, so I don't think there's any spawning stuff going on. I've talked with other people at http://www.fishinthe.net about this same thing with the bronze cories and it seems to be a species thing, as none of my other cories exhibit this behavior, as did the other people's. All I chalk it up to is bronze cory weirdness.
I'm sure there is probably a real reason. I'm not an expert in the least, but I find it interesting that it is usually bronze cories that do this.

Line up!
Hi there
I' just like to say that i have 4 peppered cory's - i'm unsure of sex, as they are fairly young and still small - although two are definately bigger than the other two.
they have always been active swimmers, constantly up and down and around! i didn't expect them to be like this and was also concerned about their behaviour at first - but i've had them several months now, with no water quality problems, no spawning - they just seem to be having fun!!
I've spoken to people on other forums and we all agreed that the bigger types of cory - bronze and pepper are very different in nature.
i love watching them and they are always a talking point when people come over as you cant help but watch them darting about.
i wouldn't worry - just enjoy them!
