The first two look like C. surinamensis, the third one is C. leucomelas, the forth looks like C. delphax, the fifth and sixth could be C. brevirostris, the seventh a juvenile C. agassizii.

Sorry Ian but curiosity has gotten the better of me!... Doesn't C. brevirostris have a drop-down nose like C. leucomelas? Pics 5 & 6 look exactly like 3 fish I have, which by most images I've seen resemble the true C. melanistus to me anyway. I was also wondering about the last pic too, is that C. ambiacus like loupgarou suggested? It's paler but appears much like mine.

loupgarou - if those are your pics, maybe Jools would like to use them to add C. surinamensis to the Cat E-log? I noticed it wasn't listed there.

I searched for C. surinamensis and mostly came up with images of C. schwartzi or melanistus, but I did find this-
(bottom fish looks more like C. delphax)

and this-

The last 2 show adults but they don't really seem to match eachother, what's your thoughts Ian?

Tyler,

C. melanisteus does not have caudal baring and brevirostris does, that is the only sure way to differentiate between the two, C delphax has a double curvature head profile.

Thanks for clearing that up Ian, funny how it's called brevirostris when the head profile is the same.

I guess that would make my 3 fish actual C. melanistus w/ their clear tails. And you also confirmed that the group I have that I assumed were C. delphax, are in fact just that.
