Stupid question, but what do you condition bristlenose with?

Post by nonamethefish »

Well, we all know that to bring fish into condition, you ought to feed them lots of nutritous foods. For most fish, this would mean the frozen bloodworms, brineshrimp, daphnia, generous feedings, etc.

However, do plecos benefit from these same foods? Reading the COTM article, it seems as though they like it, but excess is not good for them.

So do you guys use any other foods, or do the plecos take care of fattening up themselves.

With my bristlenose pairs I use algae wafers, protein pellets, cucumber, frozen bloodworm, artemia etc the occasional prawn and just keep the food varied and often (once a week I don't feed though). Their main diet is the algae wafers, cucumber and protein pellets (alternated) and they seem to condition themselves up on this just fine. The meatier foods they get once a week.

As most of mine breed every four weeks I keep them on this diet constantly.
