Epileptic bristlenose?

Post by Lapse »

Hi everyone.

Forgive me if I am in the wrong forum here or somthing like that.

The other night, one of my 3 bristlenoses fell of the side of the tank, and lay on its back. Thinking it was dead i turned it rightside up, about to scoop it out assuming it was dead. I noticed it was slightly shaking though. After about 20 seconds later i checked the PH, it was acidic which i fixed up. After i fixed the PH up, the bristlenose came woke up and started swimming around furiously around the toip of the tank trying to get air. after about a minute of this though, it went over to a corner and fell on its back again. This mnorning though it was fine, doing usual bristle nose buisness.

Before the 'seizure' the water temperature was around 29-30 degrees celsius so i put a frozen bottle of water in to cool it down. The water was pretty acidic.

In my tank i have:
2 large goldfish
2 sivler tipped tetras
3 bristlenose
2 blue dwarf gouramis
1 swordtail
a 2'*1'*1' tank (~50L)
Filtration:
1 aquaclear mini
1 undergravel filter
Airation:
single air pump (2 nozzles)
The tank has been setup since early July, the last tankmates added were added shortly pre christmas
last water change was about 3 weeks ago.

I am sorry if I missed somthing i was supposed to put in. Im not sure about the GH and KH or Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite levels.

What would be wrong with it and what do I do too help it?

Thanks
Lapse

that is a lot of fish for a 50L tank, especially with the goldfish in there. i would reccomend more water changes as well.

What was the pH, what is your normal pH, and how did you fix the pH? Quick changes in pH are worse for fish than an incorrect pH.

Roger Mcallen:
um, it was pretty acidic before the fish went into the fit, but i fixed it up (pretty abruptly) during the fit which pulled it out for a bit before it went back in.

I have been doing more regullar water changes than this usually (about 1/3 every 2 weeks). I just started back at school and have been pretty busy. I also just changed it after i read ACE1s thought.
