Abstract
A new sisorid catfish, Glyptothorax hymavatiae, is described from the Brahmaputra river basin in Arunachal Pradesh, North-east India on the basis of three specimens. It is distinguished from its congeners in having a combination of the following characters: a spindle-shaped thoracic adhesive apparatus, with a shallow median depression that is opened posteriorly by skin ridges; unculiferous ridges of adhesive apparatus not extending anteriorly onto gular region; presence of plicae on ventral surfaces first pectoral and pelvic fins rays, maxillary barbel reaching half of the pectoral fin length; outer mandible barble reaching almost pectoral fin; presence of two pale cream longitudinal stripes on dorsal and ventral sides of the body; smooth skin on head and body.
